CASE STUDY: PACIFIC MEDICAL DATA SOLUTIONS, INC.


Challenge

Pacific Medical Data Solutions (PMDS), a billing services company based in Paso Robles CA, launched a state of the art complete health practice management system in collaboration with SAGE Software and their Intergy software platform. Well positioned with the experience in billing systems and customer service team to take advantage of this rapidly expanding health management market place commonly know as Electronic Medical Records, PMDS quickly discovered that the new system demanded more than their IT infrastructure could handle. The powerful servers required to run the sophisticated software platform demanded 100% uptime, and the bandwidth needs for multiple medical practices to access the system surpassed the available connectivity at their offices. PMDS was growing faster than their infrastructure could support the system.

Solution

Colocation at the Digital West Data Center offered the 100% power guarantee insuring the system will always be on line while enhancing the physical security of the system with key-locked cabinets, video surveillance and biometric security measures. In addition, the move to Digital West meets the requirements of The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) which has strict rules regarding controlled access to equipment and data containing patient's data.

Access to the Digital West Backbone network provides the network redundancy and high capacity bandwidth necessary to meet the demands of the PMDS service guarantee. With PMDS servers at Digital West, PMDS can focus on growing the customer base with full confidence that their servers will be on line and the network will be available.

As PMDS brings on more and more medical practices, the Digital West Managed Network Services takes the burden of keeping each medical practice location on line and connected to the system. The Digital West Network Operations Center (NOC) facilitates the roll out and turn-up of each data circuit to the individual locations, monitors customer premise equipment at each location and each circuit, and stocks routers and switches for immediate deployment. If any circuit goes down or should any piece of equipment fail, Digital West does the trouble shooting, ticket escalation , and ships new equipment over night to insure maximum uptime for the entire system.

Result

PMDS can now focus on the acquisition of more customers and the management of their software instead of worrying about bandwidth, routers, circuits, and server uptime. "Moving this problem to Digital West has been a relief, we no longer have to deal with bandwidth and security problems" said Jessica Stewart, President of PMDS. She went on to say that her clients have seen a remarkable improvement in response times and that having her equipment in a data center has been a factor in convincing new clients to join her business.
